Cross Colours is a clothing brand launched in 1989 by Carl Jones. Launched on the premise of producing “clothes without prejudices” Cross Colours helped establish a fashion market based around black youth. The clothing was used to broadcast political and social messages







Karl Kani (born Carl Williams in 1989 ,Brooklyn New York Cityis the fashion designer, founder and CEO of the Hip Hop fashion brand Karl Kani. Karl Kani was launched in 1989 as a fashion forward and Hip Hop influenced clothing line. Inspired by his passion for  Hip hop  music and fashion, Karl designed clothes that appealed to a large public, including friends and celebrities from his hometown Brooklyn, New York.







Since its inception in 1992, Phat Fashions began from a small New York City  showroom and is now a multi-million dollar business. Phat Fashions' success is a result of the brand's commitment to quality, innovation in design and support of the retail trade through strategic marketing and advertising. For the consumer, Phat Fashions delivers a universal message that breaks stereotypes and ethnic boundaries, setting the new standard in sportswear and establishes the company as the complete American lifestyle brand.


The company was founded in 1992 by Daymond John with a line of hats made in his house in Hollis. Queens, New York. According to the company website, John mortgaged his own home for $100,000 and with that seed money he and his three friends Carl Brown, J. Alexander Martin, and Keith Perrin, turned half of his house into a factory and the other half into living space.[
FUBU staff started the company for their local youth community.





Eckō unltd. is a brand of urban lifestyle clothing founded by fashion designer Marc Ecko , that has been popular since the late 1990s, and moved into the mainstream urban culture in the early 2000s. It is most often associated with African American consumers. The *eckō brand has expanded to include 12 lines:
  1. Ecko Unlimited (men's urban clothing line),
  2. Ecko Red (women),
  3. Eckō Function (outerwear and alternative sports),
  4. Marc Ecko Leather (leather goods),

Lifted Research Group was founded in 1999 by Jonas Bevacqua and Robert Wright.[  Wright brought extensive experience in the streetwear industry to LRG, having worked with such companies as Quicksilver, O"Neil, and Katin during an eight-year span.[  He also contributed the resources to create the company's initial samples and patterns. Bevacqua also raised the initial start-up capital from friends of his adopted father, who worked in the fashion industry

Rocawear was created in 1999 by founder damon dash and Jay Z of Roc - A - Fella  Records along with other ventures within the brand.



Due to Cross Colours and Karl Kani breaking the door down for urban fashion for the next generation to stake it claim in the industry, but Fubu took what they learned from those brand at the time along with Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons and kept pushing through that change the way the world look at urban fashion or streetwear.
